The HMUA lead service line program is underway and property owners have been notified if their line is proposed to be replaced. The contract has been awarded to Waters & Bugbee. The project was scheduled to start in the Fall of 2022; however, due to supply chain issues, it is anticipated to begin next year after the holidays. In accordance with groundbreaking state legislation that is designed to reduce lead in drinking water and improve public health, public community water utilities in New Jersey have taken the first steps to identify and replace the state’s lead-containing service lines. Certified letters have been sent to all HMUA customers who have a known lead or galvanized service line informing them of the dangers of lead in drinking water and listing actions they can take to reduce their exposure. Please do not flush "flushable" wipes, paper towels and sanitizing (baby, Clorox/Lysol) wipes. If flushed, they will usually not clog the toilet, but these wipes often cause problems for sewer operations downstream.
