The Hackettstown Municipal Utilities Authority is seeking applicants for a Water Utility Operator Trainee position.  This person will perform tasks and job functions associated with the daily operation of the water utility. Work may include daily rounds, repair and replacement of water mains, services, meters and other jobs associated with the operation of the utility.  Candidate will be required to work some nights and weekends as well as emergency on call duty weeks. This position requires working outside in all weather conditions. Applicant must reside within a 20 minute response time to the Town of Hackettstown.  Work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, with rotating weekly emergency on-call/duty, including weekends and holidays. 

Qualifications:  High School diploma or equivalent required.  Candidates are required to possess a commercial driver’s license (CDL), Class B, with tanker and air brake endorsement.  Candidates that do not meet the CDL requirement may be eligible for consideration but a CDL, Class B, must be obtained within 1 year of position appointment.  Candidate must be willing and motivated to attend Operator Training classes and work toward obtaining NJ State Water Distribution System (W) and Treatment (T) Licenses.

The applicant shall be able to walk, bend and be able lift over 50 pounds.  Must have the ability to climb ladders up and down and enter into confined space areas. Applicant must be able to be on their feet for extended periods of time. Strong mechanical and computer skills are a plus.  Experience with operation of water treatment and distribution systems a plus.  Dump truck/backhoe operation experience is also a plus.
